A Town Plan for Woodley

An opportunity for the local Community to shape the future.

What is Woodley 2020?

Woodley 2020 is the Community development Plan and Forum being developed by the Woodley Community Partnership

The Partnership is made up of local people who are interested in the future of Woodley and in making sure that the local community has a say in what happens in the Town.

What has the Woodley Partnership achieved to date?

For the past 2 years the Partnership has been working to develop a vision and long term plan for Woodley.

Local people have been consulted about how they would like the Town to be.

The consultation has been carried out at public events, 2 Community Workshops and a survey which was distributed to every household in the Town in 2007. To download results of the survey click here

Facts about the Town have been pulled together in a Healthcheck for Woodley document using guidelines from the Countryside Agency. The Healthcheck provides detailed information about the population, economy, environment, access and getting around and the social and community aspects of the Town.

A large amount of information was gathered from the consultaion with local residents at a number of events held in 2006 and 2007 and by conducting Healthcheck

To help convert the information into actions, the findings were subject to an analysis that categorised them as Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities or Threats. (SWOT) to the community.

The SWOT Analysis was made under each of the headings used in the Healthcheck namely:

* Economy 
* Enviroment,
* Transport & Accessibility,
* Social and Community

Design Statement

The consultation on Woodley's Design Statement has now ended and the final document has been sent to Wokingham Borough Council where it will be included in a borough wide consultation along with other parish statements.

Once this consultation is concluded the Design Statement will become part of an all embracing Supplementary Planning Document which will be used or referred to in any planning applications or proposals in the town.

The Design Statement takes into account the input and aspirations of Woodley people made known during the consultation process as well as the policy requirements of planning applications and strategy for Woodley.

Action Plans

The Action Plan for Woodley has been developed from the SWOT Analysis under the same 4 main Group Headings:

* Economy
* Enviroment,
* Transport & Accessibilty,
* Social and Community

The Action Plan for Woodley will help achieve a Town that local people would like to see between now and 2020

Why should the Community do it?

We believe it is important that local people should have a powerful voice in decisions that are made on our behalf.

By creating a Community Plan, local service providers and decision makers will have to take notice of the aspirations of the Community when they consider issues that could affect Woodley.

The Plan will help priorities those changes to the Town that will meet the needs of the local people now and in the future.
