Clubmark Award for Woodley Westcoast Sports
Club
Woodley Westcoast Sports Club, which provides
opportunities for young people aged 10 -16 with additional needs to receive
coaching and take part in competitive sports, has been running for approximately
10 months now and recently achieved Clubmark Status. Clubmark is an
accreditation scheme for clubs with junior sections and is built around a set of
core criteria to show clubs operate to a set of consistent, accepted and adopted
operating standards. We are very proud that the club has achieved this status
and thanks go to the team, particularly Jennie Farrow, for their work on
this.
Over the past few months club members have
completed coaching sessions in football, tag rugby and golf with competitions
arranged at the end of each coaching session. All members of the club showed how
much they had improved in these sports with new skills which they were able to
use and demonstrate in the competition weeks. All the children were awarded
medals and certificates for their achievements.

Vision 2020
A Town Plan for Woodley
An opportunity for the local Community to shape the future.
What is Woodley 2020?
Woodley 2020 is the Community development Plan and Forum being developed by the Woodley Community Partnership
The Partnership is made up of local people who are interested in the future of Woodley and in making sure that the local community has a say in what happens in the Town.

What has the Woodley Partnership achieved to date?
For the past 2 years the Partnership has been working to develop a vision and long term plan for Woodley.
Click here to download information on membership of the partnership steering group.
Local people have been consulted about how they would like the Town to be.
The consultation has been carried out at public events, 2 Community Workshops and a survey which was distributed to every household in the Town in 2007. To download results of the survey click here
Facts about the Town have been pulled together in a Healthcheck for Woodley document using guidelines from the Countryside Agency. The Healthcheck provides detailed information about the population, economy, environment, access and getting around and the social and community aspects of the Town.
Click here to download Woodley Healthcheck and Healthcheck worksheets
A large amount of information was gathered from the consultaion with local residents at a number of events held in 2006 and 2007 and by conducting Healthcheck
To help convert the information into actions, the findings were subject to an analysis that categorised them as Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities or Threats. (SWOT) to the community.
The SWOT Analysis was made under each of the headings used in the Healthcheck namely:
* Economy
* Enviroment,
* Transport & Accessibility,
* Social and Community
Design Statement
The consultation on Woodley's Design Statement has now ended and the final document has been sent to Wokingham Borough Council where it will be included in a borough wide consultation along with other parish statements.
Once this consultation is concluded the Design Statement will become part of an all embracing Supplementary Planning Document which will be used or referred to in any planning applications or proposals in the town.
The Design Statement takes into account the input and aspirations of Woodley people made known during the consultation process as well as the policy requirements of planning applications and strategy for Woodley.
A copy of the document is available to download here and can also be viewed at the Town Council offices.
Click Here to download the Design Statement.
Action Plans
The Action Plan for Woodley has been developed from the SWOT Analysis under the same 4 main Group Headings:
* Economy
* Enviroment,
* Transport & Accessibilty,
* Social and Community
The Action Plan for Woodley will help achieve a Town that local people would like to see between now and 2020
Why should the Community do it?
We believe it is important that local people should have a powerful voice in decisions that are made on our behalf.
By creating a Community Plan, local service providers and decision makers will have to take notice of the aspirations of the Community when they consider issues that could affect Woodley.
The Plan will help priorities those changes to the Town that will meet the needs of the local people now and in the future.
New service for job seekers launched at the Oakwood Centre
In January Wokingham Job Support Centre opened its doors to provide a Woodley based service for residents looking for work. The Job Support Centre is an independent charity providing people over 20 years old with free and confidential information and advice on employment, job searching and training and career changes.
Experienced advisors will now be available at the Oakwood Centre on Tuesday mornings, 10.30 am to 1.30 pm, to offer free one-to-one consultations and help with reviewing job searches, preparing and updating of CVs and job applications, improving interview and presentation techniques and free support in the basic use of word processing. In addition clients will have free access to a database of job vacancies, national and local newspapers and a career matching programme.
Clients can call in to register with the Job Support Centre and are then welcome to make use of the services as often as they wish. The charity has helped over 5400 people since 1992.
On the day of the launch at the Oakwood Centre Town Mayor, Cllr. Kay Gilder, was on hand to welcome members of the Wokingham Job Support Centre and said she was delighted that by working together the Centre and the Town Council had brought a new local service to the town which she thought would be a crucial need in the present economic situation.
