Woodley has a rich and varied history, having grown from its original form as a ‘clearing in the woods’, as its name is derived from, to a thriving town.
A Gathering of remembrance for Armistice Day takes place at the War Memorial at 11am on 11th November each year. The gathering is open to all and the Council, local schools, community groups and other organisations lay wreaths and observe the two minute silence at 11am. In 2018, we held a memorial for the centenary of the end of WWI and had commemorative panels about Woodley during the First World War installed near to the War Memorial. You can see the panels HERE.
