The Local Government Act 1972 requires that every parish must hold a ‘Parish Meeting’ annually. In Woodley, this is known as the Annual Town Meeting (previously the Town Electors’ Meeting).
The meeting, which must be held after 6pm on a date between 1st March and 1st June, is for the electors living in Woodley to find out about Council activities and to make statements on relevant matters. Electors may also request a poll be undertaken on any question arising at the meeting, where this is supported by at least ten, or one-third, of the local government electors present at the meeting, whichever is the less. Whilst any resolution made at the meeting is not formally binding on the Council, it can help guide Council policy or actions on certain items.
