An emergency Covid-19 crisp fund to help the needy and vulnerable in the area.
The Sonning & District Welfare Trust is a historic charity registered with the Charities Commission which has used its small deposits for many years to help those in need. It is run by a small committee of volunteers who meet by arrangement only.
Its trust deed states that it is for the benefit of those living in the ‘ancient parish of Sonning’. That means the modern areas of Earley, Woodley, Charvil, Sonning, Eye & Dunsden and Sonning Common.
The Covid-19 crisis has brought a new challenge to all of us. For that reason the Trustees have decided to appeal directly to the public for donations so that we may swiftly and efficiently respond to urgent requests for grants by those in need in our district.
The Trust works with local care providers such as social services, parish and town councils, Citizens Advice Bureaux, schools and doctors’ surgeries to identify those who are most in need.
Referrals often come from members of local town and parish councils, who make up the Trustees of the Charity. Applications are always treated with strict confidentiality. Chairman of the Trustees is the Vicar of Sonning, the Revd Jamie Taylor.
Subject to the completion of an approved application form, and often with the help of a sponsor, grants are made direct to those most in need.
The Trust is only able to make one-off small grants for specific items. With regret, we are unable to help in cases of general personal debt.
If you are in need you may wish to apply directly, please see our applicant’s page for more information.
